Sorting in Microsoft Word

You can quickly and easily sort the text of a bulleted or numbered list in Microsoft's popular Word program so that the text is in alphabetical order.

  1. Select the text in a bulleted or numbered list.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Sort.
  3. In the Sort Text dialog box, under Sort by, click Paragraphs and Text, and then click either Ascending or Descending.

Sorting in Excel

You can also sort text in Microsoft Excel:

  1. Select a column of alphanumeric data
  2. On the Data tab, in the Sort & Filter group, do one of the following:
    • To sort in ascending alphanumeric order, click Sort A to Z.
    • To sort in descending alphanumeric order, click Sort Z to A.
